Beatles. We love thee so. Seriously, they can still own, after so many years. By own, I mean own the charts.

It was just recently announced that The Beatles and Eminem have been named the top selling artists of the decade. (If you didn't know, We are in the 2000s.)

The Beatles, even though they broke up three decades ago, managed to make the list with their album, 1. 1 was a compilation of their greatest hits, twenty-seven songs, twenty-seven number ones. The album had sold over 11,448,000 copies since it had been released in November of 2000. (I actually got it that christmas, lucky me. It was one of the greatest albums ever.)

They weren't the only ones though. Eminem was the top selling artist, selling over 32.2 million albums in just ten years.

All right, this was some banged up week.

First of all, Rivers Cuomo, Weezer's singer/guitarist, was in a freak accident when Weezer's tour bus crashed. He suffered a cut on his spleen, and a minor puncture in his lungs. It has been sad that he has begun to talk again and his personality and face has has brightened and colored. Obviously, all of Weezer's tour stop in december will be cancelled.

He wasn't the only one though. Axl Rose from Guns 'n' Roses got in a scuffle with a photographer at Los Angeles Airport. He claimed the paparazzi were a bit "overzealous". Psh.

There is no record of this crime, even though there are photos taken.

Ha! Everyone knows what christmas is (even if you are from a different religion). I know this sounds weird, but everyone knows who santa is, and who st. nick is, blah blah blah.

So, as usual, the regular NOW christmas album will be back, and all of those great radio stations will be playing christmas music non-stop. I hope I survive this year. Not like last time. *shudder*

Anyway, grammys, grammys, and more grammys. The grammy nominations are upon us, and really, we did GOOD!

I feel bad for Bruce Springsteen though. Even though he is up for Best Rock Song and Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance and Best song for a motion picture, he was denied even a nominee for the last category at the Oscars. His song for the movie The Wrestler was not put in, even though  it received a nod from the Grammy's. 


This is going to be an interesting time for the music world. Seeing as Christmas is nearing, CD sales will be falling and raising, depending on the market, who it is, how good the album is, and all the statistical junk you don't need to hear.

Sad day for me. The co-founder of The Alan Parsons Project, Eric Woolfson, died at the age of 64 after fighting with Cancer for quite a long time. Eric Woolfson was very famous for playing keyboards for The Alan Parsons Project and also writing the lyrics.

Famed band Aerosmith has still not found a replacement for lead singer steven tyler. They have an extremely short list, and the only man really that fits is Lenny Kravitz, and even then it wouldn't be Aerosmith.

This week, the grammy nominees were released and the music of Rock is doing pretty well: Metallica, Alice in Chains, Judas Priest, Lamb Of God, Linkin Park, Megadeth, AC/DC, Nickelback and Slayer. more.

New Releases, new releases this week, and this one is big. Well not entirely, seeing as the artist is pretty obscure, but still, it was a big release.

During the most competitive week of the Billboard top 200, fourty-eight year-old british woman Susan Boyle sold the show. Boyle's I Dreamed a Dream sold over 700,000 copies, being the highest selliing album in one week in 2009.

The charts placed Andrea Bocelli's My Christmas at number two graciously, and Rihanna's Rated R was put at number four.

Also, Taylor Swift's You Belong with me has stayed on the top 100 for the 31st consecutive week.

Now this is an era I will never forget. It's not like I was alive during that era, no way, but still, the British Invasion is the best thing since pumpkin pie. Yeah that's right, I said it. I put the British Invasion at the same level of pumpkin pie.

In the beginning, the greatest band on the earth started it: The Beatles. . .

The year is 1964, and it is January, and also the beginning of a new era. The Beatles had recently been going strong in the UK, but had never hit anything in America until they let out a new single "I want to hold your hand". It was the band's first number one hit on the Billboard 100, and it certainly wouldn't be the last.

They were invited onto the Ed Sullivan show on February 4, and after that, the rest is history.

They weren't the only band to have huge commercial success. After they paved the way, several new bands for the UK began making new hits that would get onto the Billboard 100 easy. Included in these bands are The Rolling Stones, The Kinks, and Manfred Mann.

The British Invasion was exactly that: an Invasion. Every single musician began to aspire to be a british rocker, even if they weren't british. This also spelled the end of Surf rock, and even made Elvis lose his way and step, temporary derailing him from the top.

If you didn't get that title I just created (Up arrow!), It's lyrics for the song Why Georgia by John Mayer in the album "Room For Squares" . I also noticed recently that John Mayer has released a new album called "Battle Studios". It is quite good, even though he does cover a few great songs. My favorite on that album is the song CrossRoads, which is a cover of the original by Eric Clapton.

Anyway, I'm not here to talk about John Mayer. (Or am I? [cue spooky music!]).
I'm not though. Seriously. I was just thinking yesterday, when I was drumming, why do I like music? Why do I drum?

Well I looked for the answer, and trust me, I still don't have full details, but still I think I might have something.

I drum because, well, because it's just plain fun, and i don't have to really try that hard. It somewhat comes naturally to me, and I love playing. Anyway, not many other people play the drums and it's like a single thing that no one can touch. Not only does a small amount of people play, but no one can play exactly like another person, which makes me like a snowflake, a complete original.

That's probably why I drum, because it isolates me from the rest of the world and there is no one but me and my drums, always playing a beat to my own life, my own little soundtrack.

There real question is, why do I like music?

It's fun. That's quite obvious. Listening to music is fun for me especially when i can weed out the drums and listen to them as a single part of the song. And some songs are just easy to put into other parts of my life, like I have a playlist for my ipod when I run, and those are the songs I listen to when I run.

So to me, music is like a second part of me. It's the only part I really like about myself. Just kidding, I'm not emo or anything, but still, I love music, and someday, when I am an incredibly famous drummer, it will love me back.

oh Rock, Oh Rock, you were the very best. And you still are. Now most of you would think that rock 'n' roll is the same thing as rock. Well you are sadly mistaken. Rock was made from Rock 'n' roll, and it came into the music stream in the late '50s.

     The first song to really actually top the music billboards in rock music was "Rock around the clock" by Bill Haley and His Comets. This song started a uproar of famous singers and musicians and great songs to start, and they never looked back. After the early (and I mean early!) era of rock ended, Elvis Presley stepped onto the scene, and created real rock 'n' roll. After him came Chuck Berry, Bo Diddley, and other famous names, as they settled into the sounds of rock.

      In 1959, the era of rock 'n' roll was coming to an end. As Elvis departed for the army, and Chuck Berry was prosecuted, the end was near. But the "inbetween" was closer. 

      The "inbetween years" are the years before the british invasion and after the original rock. In the inbetween years, surf rock was formed.It was the years when the beach boys were the best, and no one could tip them off the top. It was like they were the king, not Elvis. 

       Like may other things in the world, the surf rock era only lasted only for a short while. . .

Big news. Big bad news.
Aerosmith has in trouble!! Well not really but it seems like that. When Steven Tyler left the band because he wanted to take a break and the rested wanted to continue, they continued. The bad part was that Tyler surprised fans at a Joe Perry concert in New York and announced that he wasn't quitting Aerosmith.

Like I said, Bad News.

Joe Perry later said that Aerosmith will be looking for a new lead singer. The best available vocalists that would fit the bill are:

• Kid Rock
• Scott Weiland
• Chris Cornell
• Paul Rodgers
• Pink

All right, people are back to work!
Red Hot Chili Peppers just let out that they are working on their new album, after being on a lengthy hiatus. Also back to work are Megadeth, and Deep Purple. This will be an interesting month. . .

Another thing, two famous guitarists are selling extremely rare items. Gene Simmons, of KISS, is creating a limited time only axe bass that he will sell to the public. Every single editions of this bass will be autographed by him.

Also being sold is guitarist of Metallica, Kirk Hammett's house in francisco. Okay so it isn't really a house, but more of a mansion, but you get the idea. This georgian-style house is nine-thousand square-feet, it has eight bedrooms and eight bathrooms, a music studio, a billiards room and a two-car garage. He is selling it for nine million dollars.

So, this week in Rock News, something big has happened!
Turns out Disney and Robert Zemeckis, a "famous" animator, are making a deal to recreate the movie Yellow Submarine. Instead of a cartoon, this 1968 film will be turned into a 3-D movie. There is no word yet if Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney will join the movie. Click Here for more information.

In other news, The Wuggie is finally here! Don't know what a wuggie is? Well I'll tell you right now! A wuggie is a snuggie that has the word Weezer written on it. Weezer has just fulfilled it's promise of making a snuggie endorsed by the band. This object of intense comfort will be priced at $30 and if you want a zebra print one, that will cost $50.  As the famous Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio celebrates twenty-five years of pure magnificence, Everyone else does too. During the second night of celebration for the hall of fame arrived, so did several famous bands and artists of rock.

First up in Madison Square Gardens, where they celebrated, was Jerry Lee Lewis, alone on the piano singing "Great Balls of Fire". Shortly Aretha Franklin, the Queen of Soul, came on to sing "Respect", "Think", and some of her other great hits.

Jeff Beck came next, subbing for a sick Eric Clapton. Soon Buddy Guy, played with him.

   Bruce Springsteen joins U2 on stage at Madison Square Gardens. Here is a complete photo gallery of show.

Other huge acts including Metallica, Lou Reed, and Ozzy Osbourne played through, making this one of the greatest shows on Earth.

Yet it wasn't over as U2 came on to perform one of my favorite songs, "Vertigo". And then suddenly, the famous Mick Jagger walked onto the stage, after almost two years of not singing in front of an audience. He did good singing with U2, and at the end, the wrapped it up with "Beautiful Day".

I actually found it quite amusing that Jeff Beck would be taking over for Eric Clapton, who had just undergone gallstone surgery, just like he did in 1965 when Clapton wouldn't join The Yardbirds. It was Very entertaining to me as a lover of all those acts, including my preferred band, U2.

Well that is all the important news I have for today. Also, famous drummer of Def Leppard, Rick Allen, celebrates his 46th birthday. Allen is not only famous for his drum work, but also for being the only one-armed drummer. So Happy November, and Happy Birthday Rick Allen.

I find it amazing how immersed people are in music. I love it. I've been listening to Bruce Springsteen for years, and I always find the way he sings is like he is telling a complicated story with different turns and emotions. Sure the way he sings is recognized as beautiful, but I think that might be the only things people hear. Of course they hear the beat, but they probably don't understand what the noise is. They think of it as background sounds, something that they put in to make everything more intense.

And that's what makes me sad.

Sometimes, I discreetly hate life. I'm not going to lie about it. Sometimes I can't stand a single day of my
life and I just want to chuck a mailbox into a great abyss to the sound of a heartbeat pounding away. But in the evening, when the day is done, I am mellow for only two reasons. One, because I am extremely tired from being an irritating person. But we are going to focus on the second, which is the fact that before I go to sleep, I always put my I Pod on shuffle and I listen to some rock music.

Not rap or anything like that. I would never consider hip-hop or rap a form of music. I listen to the music of my childhood and that of my father's childhood.

So I'm write this blog for one reason, and one reason only. To teach, live, and write about Rock Music. Without hesitation join me on my expedition of the world of rock, where you will finally learn how to live.
